Future Farm Systems in Northland- Responding to the Challenges of Climate Change

AgFirst Northland consultants are running this project for the Northland Dairy Development Trust (NDDT). It looks at how farmers can mitigate and adapt to climate change with a focus on the Northland region in New Zealand.

The research is strongly farmer-driven and the latest concerns from farmers about both the effects of climate change and changing farming regulations have led to the current trial.

Northland farms are at the forefront of the effects of a warming climate and demonstrate the challenges that the rest of New Zealand will experience over time.

The first year report completed in June 2022 is now available to download- the Alternative Pastures and Current Farm profitability was similar, whereas the Low Emissions farm (set to meet 2050 GHG targets) was $2000/ha lower profit. For more details go to www.nddt.nz
