Updates to Intensive Winter Grazing Regulations

Do you need help with the Intensive Winter Grazing Regulations?

Under the recent changes, those farmers who cannot meet the permitted activity standards will require a consent before the 2023 winter grazing period. AgFirst consultants can support farmers to look at options to meet the permitted activity standards and develop a winter grazing plan.

 AgFirst consultants can:

  • Identify and evaluate potential risk areas, including slope, waterways and critical source areas
  • Help mitigate risk by looking at other areas and opportunities within your operation
  • Develop winter grazing plans

If permitted activity standards cannot be met, or IWG has not been carried out previously, AgFirst consultants can assist in the consent process, or once the certified freshwater farm plan pathway becomes available, we can help progress this pathway and integrate winter grazing plans.

AgFirst consultants are well positioned to provide the support and planning farmers need to complete the requirements that will allow farmers to continue to focus on the day to day aspects of farming, whilst ensuring farmers are fully involved in the process. We are well connected with regional councils, iwi and other experts as well as carrying a depth of environmental and farm system knowledge within our consultant network.

AgFirst consultants are committed to working with farmers to help develop plans in time for the 2023 winter grazing period, so please do not hesitate to get in touch if you need support.

What's coming out of Tile Drains - Project Update 2024
Horticultural tile drains are used to divert excess moisture from the soil which can help waterlogged land become more productive. The purpose of this project seeks to understand whether this diversion of water contributes additional nutrients to our waterways that may impact water quality.

Forestry on Farms: Implications for Farm Sustainability and Regional Impact

This modelling study was undertaken to understand the opportunity to farm better class farmland more productively while planting forestry on poorer class land farmland, with blanket forestry planting as a comparison. It also considered the wider regional economic impact of such forestry planting.
