Phil Tither
Since January 1995 Phil has been a director and consultant for AgFirst.
Phil has over 25 years experience as an agricultural consultant, with:
13 years in Hawke's Bay with Agfirst Consultants 5 years in Hawke's Bay with Agriculture NZ MAF 1 year with MAFF in UK 6 years in North Otago with MAF. His primary role is as an agricultural consultant for AgFirst Pastoral in Hastings, New Zealand.
The AgFirst Pastoral office employs two other agricultural consultants and shares resources with five AgFirst horticultural consultants and an engineer.
Phil's areas of expertise centre around:
- Whole Farm Approach: Our consultancy business is based on integration of financial, technical and individual needs of clients, whether they be farmers, agribusiness or Government clients. A long term view of physical and financial sustainability are key inputs to the advice given.
- Financial Management and Analysis: Frequently involved in accounts analysis, forecast budgeting, development and land purchase feasibilities, evaluation of alternative livestock policies. An experienced user of Farmax, the sophisticated decision support tool which allows simulation of feed demand versus feed supply equations for various farming systems.
Phil's clients are mostly in Hawke's Bay and the Central North Island, but also works with a number of large scale South Island operations. Over the past 12 years he has visited Chile on business on six occasions and worked on beef projects in Australia.
Phil enjoys working with progressive farm businesses and helping them achieve sustainable ongoing success. A specific example of this is the Wairarapa Moana Sheep and Beef Unit, which Phil supervises, which was the 2005 Winner of the Maori Farmer of the Year.
As well as learning from research and his successful client base, Phil also reflects on his own investments into agriculture, which include:
- Livestock Partner – Managing Director of a 23,000 stock unit livestock sharefarming business as a joint venture with Brownrigg Agriculture.
- Farmax Ltd – Director and shareholder along with Brownrigg Agriculture and AgResearch.
- Forestry partnership.
- Commercial property.
