Carla Emms

Carla’s degrees in both horticultural science and finance give her an ideal background to pursue one of her specialties – economic benchmarking. Carla has undertaken a number of benchmarking projects for the pipfruit and wine industries in New Zealand, including the annual MAF Farm Monitoring Pipfruit reports, benchmarking the cost of grape growing in Hawke's Bay and most recently analysing supply chain costs for NZ pipfruit producers.

Another focus is also technology transfer, where Carla has managed a range of projects from the Focus Vineyard project through to climate change and energy efficiency projects across different sectors of the primary industry.

Carla offers a full range of services to viticultural growers, including:

• Property evaluations and purchase feasibilities
• Financial planning and monitoring
• Economic benchmarking on both a block and orchard/vineyard level
• Project management
• Technology transfer and education
• Energy efficiency analysis

Carla works closely with our research and technical teams, assisting with monitoring services, statistical analysis and financial benchmarking.

Keen to pass on the passion, Carla also teaches units of the National Certificate in Viticulture (Level 4 - advanced).
